hands in the air Sunday, July 11 2004
I was at that godforsaken house on Eagle's Nest again, this time standing on a crate with my hands above my head, making electrical connections in flimsy little metal boxes designed for even flimsier recessed lighting fixtures. I've done a lot of different sorts of work in houses, and this has to be among the least pleasant there is, aside from certain forms of emergency basement plumbing. There's a reason that hanging people by their arms is a common form of torture (at least in Don Martin cartoons). Just having your arms in the air for long periods of time, even without your body weight pulling on them, is torture in itself (unless, of course, you happen to be on ecstasy).
In other news, I had lots of trouble with getting a Macintosh (running OS 9.1) working with AOL. It dialed in okay and even managed to secure an IP address for itself, but I could not get it to give me a web page (or any internet content) no matter what I did. I even tried forcing it to use known DNS servers, but nothing worked. If anyone has an idea what the problem might have been, I'd love to your feedback.
