Hackintosh with ethernet Sunday, October 9 2011
It was another fabulously warm day, and again I was up there in that White Pine just north of the house trying to drill all the way through it. But it was just too hard. I was going to need a 3/4 inch auger bit. So I ordered one online. They're cheap if you're willing to buy them used.
This evening, after numerous downloads and experiments, I figured out how to install files (actually, they're folders full of files) called "kexts" onto my Hackintosh. Kexts are to OSX Macintoshes as drivers are to Windows machines. Eventually I managed to install a kext that got the ethernet port working, which meant that my Hackintosh could finally function on the internet. The only thing it lacks now is sound and support for removable optical media. Less clear is the path for upgrading the computer to OSX 10.7 (Lion), which I will need to stay current with my iPhone developing colleague.
