   Neville at the bookstore post-surgery
Wednesday, January 10 2018
Today was Gretchen's Wednesday shift at the bookstore, and, to take dogtending stress off of me, she took Neville with her. It probably wasn't ideal that he would be getting the modest additional amount of walking that he would just being a bookstore dog, but it was important for me to have a clear mind to work. Also, Neville would be spending most of the day under a blanket sleeping (it's cold in that bookstore!). Gretchen later reported that Neville was overjoyed to be back at the bookstore; it certainly beat the dullness of hour after hour spent in the recuperation fort. (In the past, back before his surgery, Neville would typically get tired of being there after a number of hours. That was why I would pick him up or drop him off special to give him a half day or whatever.)
[REDACTED]

The weather continued its steady warming trend throughout the day, with the several inches of snow gradually turning into slush. It's amazing how much easier it is to keep the house warm when the temperature outside is in the 30s and not, say, less than ten. And there's not a howling wind.
