   wet pile of pinecones
Wednesday, April 25 2018
Today's weather was a reversion back to the mean, with cooler temperatures and a bit of rain. We've had a bumper crop of pinecones this year, and I've used these to augment the existing pile of pinecones on Sally the Dog's grave. The pile had been about two feet tall, but with the rain it had shrunk considerably, the result of the pinecones closing due to moist conditions. I'd never been aware before that pinecones that had been open will close when soaked in water, but I could see for myself that pinecones that had been open were now closed and taking up noticeably less volume.
