Gretchen had to meet a flooring guy over at the Brewster Street house late this morning to determine what to do about the trashed carpets on the second floor. The existing tenant will soon be out of there, but while she's there, she's a source of endless stress. For the past four years of living at Brewster Street, she's been the one tenant that has made our real estate empire something other than easy. So, for moral support, today Gretchen would be bring Andrea along. First, though, we were able to have a truncated Saturday morning with coffee and the New York Times Spelling Bee. There were at least two panagrams: "nautical" and "lunatic" (the first Gretchen got right away, and the second Powerful found, though both eluded me for a few hours).
While Gretchen and Andrea were off at Brewster Street, I did some more cutting of the small white pines east of the house. I've found that the easiest way to deal with them is to just put a ladder up against them, get as high up into them as possible (possibly cutting off some lower branches to help with this), and then cut the tops off. Today I also cut a lot of lower branches off the trees east of the screened-in porch to make it feel more like a "park" under the canopy, thereby making longer views from the porch. I also ate the last of the pasta leftover from Powerful's party that he hadn't taken to whatever social event he went to today, and that made Gretchen very sad. She would end up spending the rest of the day watching a lot of teevee after Andrea got on a train back to Washington.
This afternoon, I took the Bolt into town, mostly to return the brake supplies I didn't need for Powerful's Prius (a $150 refund!), get rechargeable AAA batteries (for Woodchuck's bluetooth mouse, the only one I can tolerate using on it), a few pots for sunflower seedlings, and more bottom-shelf liquor. Since Hannaford didn't seem to have rechargeable AAA batteries, I ended up having to drive out to Lowes (in addition to the Uptown Hannaford-Herzogs plaza).
