business rules for a business that doesn't exist Tuesday, July 30 2024
Today I put more effort into working out issues in the tenant-based security model of my ESP8266 Remote Control system. One of the things I needed was a tenant editor so that I, as an admin, can create and destroy tenants. But I also want people to be able to create their own tenants when they create a user, so I'll have to implement that at some point. Then I'll have to create role that allows users to access reports without being able to create them. It's a little weird to be creating business rules for a business that doesn't exist and probably never will.
But I was also feeling a little like maybe I'm getting to near the end of that project, since it really has everything I could possibly want in such a system. There are some neglected chores around the house that I need to do, and working on cabin software is one way to procrastinate doing those things. A small task that I could do is to put some ceramic numbers on a rock to label the entrance to our driveway, since the ceramic numbers have delaminated to the point of illegibility. So today I managed to get a suitably massive rock to attach the numbers to, but then I didn't really feel like doing the job. Eventually I returned to my ESP8266 Remote Control system to tinker with a graph-producing report to see if I could use battery voltage, solar current, load current, and battery charging current to calculate a battery percentage with finer granularity than the existing battery percentage value, whose integer values are unpleasantly-jagged when graphed across values with finer detail. I came up with a report that produces a graph that vaguely coincided with the battery percentage graph, but it was full of noisy bits that reached well outside the smooth line I was hoping for.
This evening after Gretchen got home from a rare Tuesday pilates class, I made myself a burrito with various leftovers from this and last week, along with a big glop of refried beans and fresh lettuce. Some of the leftovers were chanterelles I'd fried up last week, and they were the best flavor in it.
