   August 2024

just keeps adding dragons - Watching House of the Dragon alone in Hurley while recovering files from a failing media drive.
leaving for the cabin on the dogs' schedule - At least it gave our car enough time to charge.
drftwood tree dock - Dragging a fairly large tree trunk out of the middle of a bay to shore so I can have a better place to disembark from watercraft.
osprey with a fish - While watching a loon on Woodworth Lake, an unexpected bird of prey makes an appearance.
first spotted lanternfly - Yet another Asian exotic and dinner in Woodstock.
chanterelles with torchietti - Delicious foraged mushrooms with pasta and a templating mechanism for my remote control system.
homemade pizza and a movie about Tonya Harding - Nasoya tofu really is pretty bad, bu the pizza was good.
 post-covid return to Tubby's - We hadn't seen a band there since 2019.
a party despite the hurricane remnants - But I don't know many of the people there and feel awkward.
Guided by Voices at the Bearsville Theatre - It sounded like one of their instruments might be a buzzsaw.
the long way to Lorenz Road - We show some neighbors how to walk through the forest between our houses.
Charlotte not too mopey - Gretchen takes Neville to work and Charlotte processes it better because she sees him leave.
trail de-poison-ivyification - I bring a long pair of needle-nosed pliers on a walk down the Stick Trail.
crumbling Electrify America - There aren't enough fast chargers for the many additional electric cars people are now driving.
Ethiopians in Washington - How did they end up there? And what are the Ethiopian men sipping coffee in the Ethiopian bakery up to?
learning about Glen Echo - We see a documentary produced by someone we sort of know about something we had no knowledge of.
two bad Electrify America experiences in one day - Their network is collapsing under the weight of way too many electric cars.
zeroth world problem - Costco is great for stocking a second home.
necessary change in elevation - I don't like small dips in a walkway.
crowbar stone extraction - After removing large rocks from the new Mossy Rock Path with a crowbar, I fill the resulting craters with sand.
especially large lumber on the roof rack - A young Home Depot employee in Amsterdam makes it possible to get twelve foot six by sixes up there.
boulder-studded woods - Checking out the trackless wilderness north of the Lake Edward Trail. Also: telling ChatGPT the news.
rare Adirondack flagstones - They're hard (but not impossible) to find.
Transvirginia - I cross Virginia Creek and see what lies in the unbounded wilderness beyond it. Also, removing tiny stumps from the Mossy Rock Trail.
a fog of little cubes - Getting vegan pizza with our actress neighbor and her boyfriend.
bean stew - Lots of mosquitoes and tomatoes.
a chemical smell that I would rather not have - I can't take a mental-health walk in the forest because of the mosquitoes.
a husk of phoebe hatchlings - Looking up at a nest while waiting for the glass guy to arrive.
cedar outlasting steel - In direct contact with the ground, the latter was more rotten.
two Midwestern goodbyes - Two social calls before driving up to the Adirondack cabin.
first Github contribution to a stranger - After solving the FM radio reception problem in the Bolt, I contribute to an online repository of Bolt information.
