Like my brownhouse:
   September 2024

valuable clumps of turf - When I dig up some turf at the cabin, I can use it to patch bald spots elsewhere.
for want of a brown card - As we leave for another European adventure, Gretchen forgets to bring her credit cards.
King's Garden, Copenhagen - Eating bad vegan bakery items in a beautiful place.
Copenhagen bike tour - A café, a cemetary, a museum, and up and down the canals into the harbor.
a problem in Neumünster - A train ride to Hamburg from Copenhagen is great until a bus catches on fire.
Elbtunnel - Trouble with rental wheeled vehicles on the way to our cruise ship in the Hamburg harbor.
Hafencity - A tour of Hamburg's revitalized old port. And then we start navigating up the Elbe.
Lüneburg - A medieval town with interested niches in the gabled ends of their buildings. But it's mostly closed on a Sunday.
cheap wine in Wolfsburg - Also, because of a water failure on the boat, free alcohol at lunch and dinner.
aqueduct across the Elbe - I take a little time out to do some software development on the boat.
making tea with just hot water from a tap - The key is to pre-heat the cup.
Brandenburg and Potsdam - A hurried tourist schedule on the last day of our German riverboat cruise.
vegan kabab - A the end of our cruise, we make our way across Berlin and have some delicious Turkish fast food.
finding my way back to Hotel Klassik - After a busy day of being a tourist and eating vegan food, Gretchen and I get separated while biking through Berlin in the dark.
central Berlin - From the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe to the not-too-inflammable Reichstag.
downtime in Berlin - Gretchen continues her frenetic Berlin vacation while I buy some booze and drink alone.
skeletonized varmint in the yard - Returning home from Berlin, I have an emergency landlording chore and Neville's face is covered with scabs.
nowhere near as good as Rao's - Cooking down tomatoes on the first day back from Europe.
nature is my jam - A visit to some friends who have more in common with Gretchen than with me.
tele-real-estate - A realtor gives us a live tour of a house in Rochester before I head to the cabin.
abandoned hunting camp on Virginia Creek - Exploring further to the northeast of Woodworth Lake.
disposing of many gallons of sand - I use it to even out the grade of the new Mossy Rock Trail.
48 cubic feet of sand - Burying more styrofoam near the cabin's northeast corner.
automatically unsorted ghost pepper pieces - A few minutes of agony when I make a bad assumption about how well I'd mixed in pieces of ghost pepper.
a familiar burnt flavor - Chili with a flavor we haven't tasted since we were back in college thinking we could cook food on an industrial scale.
bluestone mine hiding in plain sight - Somehow I only just discovered it recently after living here for 22 years.
Harris signs in Trump country - So far I've only counted six on the hundred-mile route from the southern Catskills to the southern Adirondacks.
uses for old mylar balloons - They can serve as gift wrap or to seal gaps in sheets of styrofoam.
chimpmunk proofing - Spray foaming voids in the dockside box and making the bird feeder refillable without a ladder.
Charlotte is back to acting out - She peed on a brand new carpet and then went to hang out in the road several times. Also, there is too much ghost pepper in the soup Gretchen took to work.
