   February 2025

offline time - I add a real time clock to my ESP8266 Remote Control system.
cold drive to snowy Rochester - People in Rochester just live with snow on their roads, and it's no big deal.
beer isn't easy to find on the NY Thruway - After some rushed last-minute carpentry, I drive back from Rochester and try to buy beer in various places.
300 feet of pex - Not feeling great while buying a bunch of pipe.
my last parent dies - I hurry down to Virginia as my mother lies dying, but she doesn't hold on quite long enough.
Thai food medicine - As my health deteriorates at my childhood home, I decide to buy some spicy ethnic food.
healthful help from the childhood neighbors - Gretchen gets my old neighbors to bring over some food and health supplies after I tell her how sick I am.
Nathan's amazing furnished apartment - I take my friend up on his offer of a clean, isolated place to recover. But I don't isolate all that much.
free rollerskating in Charlottesville - Also, lots of coffee drinking, some mushrom chowder, and Superbowl nachos.
getting my brother to wash dishes - He will do practically anything for a ride into town.
outrunning a Shenandoah Valley snowstorm - I drive from Creekside to Hurley in only 7 hours.
improvised wot - Inspired by a thawing bag of injera, I successfully make an Ethiopian stew from stuff I find in the refrigerator.
media computer motherboard swap - The old media computer becomes unusable, but I have another very similar motherboard.
not a great Valentine's Day - Gretchen is sick and one of our tenants has turned into a tenantzilla.
Kingston's absurd landlord-tenant laws - An unpleasant eviction attorney informs us how few rights we as landlords have these days in Kingston.
very large glass of bourbon and obscene refrigerator magnets - Birthday meal at the Bear Cantina on a slushy snowy evening.
a soup is bigger than the sum of its parts - I make one centered around potatoes, carrots, kale, and kidney beans.
two hours and several gallons - Gretchen drives and hour to a prison and finds it in lockdown while I add a new feature to my version of Spelling Bee.
the ice lingers - Pseudoephedrine and painting on another icy February day.
icy driveway hell - I finally manage to extract the Bolt and find out how much money I inherited from my mother.
Bad Company morning - Reminded of a terrible rock band first thing in the morning. Also, has my brother been a victim of DOGE?
table on an antinode - Eggplant parmesan at the Garden Cafe.
Heisenbug - The nature of my debugging makes a bug disappear.
like using duct tape - I'm having to junk up my ever-more-complex ESP8266 firmware with hacky details like delays to make it work reliably.
chipping away at the ice deposit - Trying to physically break winter apart.
a successful curry - Better news and my cooking talents continue to expand.
no-hassle palm trees - We fly to St. Petersburg.
a long bike ride on marginal bikes - Riding one-speeds to an early dinner in St. Petersburg, Florida.
