   300 feet of pex
Tuesday, February 4 2025

location: rural Hurley Township, Ulster County, NY

I drank too much last night, which wasn't clear when I was actually doing it. But in the middle of the night when I woke up I could tell this was the case. I'd also developed a mysterious cough that would plague me throughout the day. It wasn't a bad cough; I'd cough once and a tiny divot of phlegm would appear in my mouth and I'd be good for five or ten minutes, only to do it again. Otherwise I was fine. Had I contracted some virus somewhere in Rochester? Being sick is kind of unfamiliar to me; the last time I was was after I got back from the cruise in Portugal and came down with my second bout of covid.
The plan today was just to recover from Rochester (and, by extension, my hangover). The one bit of real activity I engaged in was to drive out to Albany Avenue to deliver some tax documents to our accountant. Then I went to Home Depot to return some items I'd bought at the Rochester Home Depot (particularly additional handrail brackets and circuit breaker box void filler blanks). I then bought 300 feet of half inch red PEX pipe for useful project I anticipate doing soon: bypassing the inch-thick copper pipe to a number of distant places in our house with half inch PEX, thereby delivering hot water to those locations much more quickly.
Back at the house, I couldn't focus on much of consequence until I climbed in the tub and took a hot bath while Gretchen went off to teach her prison poetry class at Woodbourne. She would end up having only one student, but he was great, and she felt like she taught a great class all the same.
