an apartment in the cookie-cutter brick Wertland Apartments on Wertland Street. The HCP was frequented by a large group of mostly male, mostly young alcoholics during a period lasting from the Fall of 1996 into May of 1997. Rent payers at the Horrid Crash Pad included Josh Smith and gap-toothed Jeremy, although there may have occasionally been others. The HCP was well known for its sausage parties, card games, classic rock, heavy metal, pop-grunge, cheap pizza, permanently soiled carpet, smoky air, overflowing ash trays, pot smoking, and epic consumption of cheap beer (especially Milwauki's Best; any decorator would have had to account for the metallic bluish colour of the cans). Morgan Anarchy and the Brazilian Girls were frequent crashers at the Horrid Crash Pad, though I myself passed out there on several occasions. Since it was only a little ways up the street from the Dynashack, I always managed to stagger home before sunrise.
Male bonding was an important subtext to the usual HCP scene. Sexual frustration was a common affliction, what with few women around and little else to do but drink, take drugs and play cards.
I usually went to the HCP with one or both of the Brazilian Girls, but only when I was completely out of ideas for how to spend the evening. Surveying and experiencing the sexual frustration was often high entertainment for me.
