Arguments Against Pornography

June 1, 2000 (Updated June 12, 2000)

Here are my arguments against pornography:

1) Pornography causes harm:

    a) It is addictive for many men (and women).
    b) It can lead to child molestation and pedophilia.
    c) There is a high correlation between pornography and sexual violence including rape.
    d) It has a direct role in the transmission and encouragement of sexually transmitted diseases by promoting promiscuous sex.
    e) It changes values and attitudes such as desensitization and "tolerance" which leads to more depraved pornography.

2) Pornography can lure many men to adultery.

3) Pornography is well known to make people develop "fetishes" (sexual attractions to inanimate objects).

4a) There are reports in many urban areas of increased violence around pornography outlets.

4b) When the municipal government in these areas closed these outlets, there was a vast decrease in sexual violence     including rape.

5) The pornography addict's final step is actualization, where he/she ACTS OUT what he/she has seen as is what happened with Ted Bundy.

6) In a study of 932 sex addicts, by Dr. Patrick Carnes, 90% of the men and 77% of the women indicated that pornography played a significant role in their addiction. ( Carnes, P. (1991). Don't call it love: Recovery from sexual addictions. New York: Bantam )

7) Men who use pornography usually can't form a normal emotional relationship with a woman (or vice versa).

8) Most men and women who use pornography masturbate on a regular basis.

9) It is estimated that 70% of boys under 18 have seen pornography because it is easy to get hold of because it is legal.

10) When men or women use pornography, the church/synagogue attendance of that person drops dramatically.
