   Friday Night at Bathtub Central
Friday, September 29 2000
Fandango Matt made me this promotional banner for Vodkatea.com. Feel free to stick it anywhere: on your site, on your forehead, up your butt - perhaps I should actually make some stickers or even a tee shirt!

In the evening, my old girlfriend Kim sent her housemate Maria (also known as Dirtygirl) to pick me up for yet another night setting up Kim's computers and Bathtubgirl.com website. On the drive to Venice, Maria was telling me about her misfortune buying a condo with her then-husband just prior to the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. In 1994, she told me, Los Angeles real estate prices were at an all-time high, but immediately after the earthquake, they were at an unprecedented low. Yet she still had to pay the original mortgage. "The economy is still recovering" she added.
Maria has a nine year old son who was visiting tonight. He's a skateboard enthusiast, and when he saw the Transworld Skateboarding Magazine teeshirt I was wearing (left at our San Diego house by skateboard daredevil EJ of Steph & EJ fame), he got all excited and wanted to show me his two skateboards and his skateboarding Playstation videogame.
While Kim captured clips on her iMac from a DV camera, I spent hours unsuccessfully trying to get a PC soundcard to work. When I gave up on it and took a little break to play the skateboarding videogame, Kim (taskmaster as always) threw a fit about my laziness and unprofessionalism. We yelled at each other for awhile and at one point Kim even demanded that I leave.
But after hours and hours of work turning Kim's ideas into graphics, HTML and cascading style sheets, Kim had to admit I'd done some pretty damn good work. It was 2am, way past my bedtime, I was completely exhausted, and the internet connection was being unreliable, but still Kim urged me on.
I spent the night at Kim's place, of course. It was the first time we'd slept together in something like two months. [REDACTED]
