Like my brownhouse:
   completely swallowed by the forest
Monday, May 31 2021
I had Memorial Day off, though the day started cold and rainy as the other days of this long weekend had been. I managed to find my electric pole saw (a small chainsaw on a pole) and was planning to trim the tops of the small pines east of the house so we wouldn't be completely swallowed by the forest. But it was still a bit too rainy and wet to actually do the sawing, so I worked on gardening projects instead. I planted the peppers, basil, and oregano from yesterday in the smallish deck-rail planters and then expanded the main garden patch further west to plant the eight collard seedlings.
I tried watching the classic noir film Gaslight (after which the psychological verb is named), but it's hard for someone with a modern attention span to sit through a black and white movie from 1944. Instead I became sidetracked by two of the female characters, the one played by Ingrid Bergman and the other played by Angela Lansbury. I paused the film about 10% of the way in to read their Wikipedia entries, thereby shoring up a relatively weak part of my cultural knowledge. I found myself wondering if Ingrid Bergman would be considered beautiful in 2021. She'd definitely get a nose job, I decided.
By late this afternoon the clouds had cleared out, the sun had appeared, and temperatures had risen into the upper 60s for the first time since Friday.
