   election day '98
Tuesday, November 3 1998
The evening was a pleasant one as election results rolled in. Since I'm on the West Coast now, I could see the complete picture for the East, where polls were already closed. For both Kim and me, there was a delicious feeling from watching the unexpectedly poor election results for the Republicans. These opportunistic windbags who've been carping about Bill Clinton's private sex life, acting as though it deviates from the good old American Norm (oh please!) have been conclusively shown tbat the people they represent are weary of all the insulting bombast. Mind you, it's not that I especially like Bill Clinton, the "New Democrats" or think they've demonstrated any of the qualities I like in either a political party or a leader of the rocking free world. It's just that the moralistic Republicans are so infuriatingly awful it's refreshing to see them getting humiliated, especially at this moment in history.
It's fortunate that Kim has an interest in politics and generally (and coincidentally) supports the same political figures that I do. It's rare to find politically interested people in my age group, and even rarer to find politically interested women there.
