Hello, my name is Judas Gutenberg and this is my blaag (pronounced as you would the vomit noise "hyroop-bleuach").

   haircut of marginal bird utility
Tuesday, July 18 2017
A dog barking incessantly at something below the house got me out of bed. I thought it was Ramona beneath a treed bear, but evidently not. Ramona and Neville were out barking at things, but they were in the field above the house, and there wasn't the urgency in their barking that I'd heard from below the house. The creature I'd heard had either been a coyote or some other dog (Crazy Dave's perhaps?).
I had trouble getting to sleep after that, so I went to my computer and managed to figure out how to get the remaining Postfix instance working (all I had to do was kill a lingering Postfix process identified with netstat).
I was eventually able to get back to sleep, but by then it was nearly 9:00am, and I only slept for an hour.
After dropping the dogs off in the forest for their usual self-guided recreation, I returned home and cut my hair for the first time in the better part of a year. I did it out on the laboratory deck, leaving my hair in places where birds might easily be able to gather it for use in lining their nests. It's not really bird nest-building season any more; perhaps I should time my hair cut for that next time.
Gretchen was feeling much better today; she even made a few snips in the back of my head to even out the mess I'd made back there.
The day was unusually humid and muggy. We had a strong shower at some point, though it did nothing to cool the air.
