   new offgassing couch
Thursday, August 10 2023

location: rural Hurley Township, Ulster County, NY

Gretchen would be riding with our friend Anna to Brooklyn today, but while she was expected to arrive, there was also expected to get a delivery of a massive new L-shaped couch from Raymour & Flanigan to replace the couch in the teevee roomm. Complicating matters further, when both Anna and the truck with the couch arrived, Gretchen was off at the library. Somehow though the couch arrived, Anna managed to sneak in past the big truck delivering it, and Gretchen parked out on the road when she got back from the library. The new couch is so big that it required some slight adjustments to the layout of the teevee room, and it was also offgassing a fair amount of fumes.
Gretchen and Anna chatted for awhile and had plans to have lunch at the Garden Café in Woodstock, which Gretchen invited me to. But I just wanted to be on my way to the cabin in the Adirondacks. And so I packed up a bunch of things (including four cucumbers from the bountiful plant in our garden), loaded up the dogs, and hit the road. Along the way, I pissed twice in a peanut jar and stopped for groceries (especially beer and sourdough break) at the Price Chopper in Johnstown.
Once at the cabin, I started drinking and didn't accomplish much on any of the tasks I would've otherwise worked on. Part of the problem was it was generally raining (or threatening rain) outside, causing me to lie instead on the couch with a laptop and a drink.
Though our cellular hotspot plan from Cricket had exceeded its data allotment, for some reason the data kept flowing unabated. Perhaps this was because their web page to check data usage hadn't been working for days and there had been no reasonable way to know how much data I'd been using.
