like something made from Lego Tuesday, December 27 2016
Gretchen left for the City at around noon, taking the menorah I'd made last night. She thought it was "magnificent," which it definitely was. At this point I wasn't feeling too excited about it; once one has basic plumbing skills and a design (true, one I'd come up with), actually building the menorah is mostly grunt work, with little possibility of error. It felt more like something made from Lego than it did a work of art.
Today was a workday in the remote workplace, though not many others (even in The Organization) were doing much actual work. Things tended to stay fairly quiet, allowing me to focus on things that I might otherwise have had difficulty focusing on. Towards the end of the workday, things became increasingly social, though conversation would often return to work matters long after the workday had concluded. I found myself answering a surprisingly technical question at 1:30am, after I'd drunk a fair amount of booze. But the answer I gave was a solid one that would still look articulate and on-message the next day.
