the end of mosquito season Sunday, September 9 2018
It was another cool grey day, perfect for processing firewood, which is what I did throughout the day, interspersed with occasional YouTube binges. Most of what I watched was trashy segments detailing the wacky things that the police have to deal with in America today. The cops in such programs are always shown in a good light; they're the world-weary thin blue line just trying to keep the world from descending into chaos. The people they interact with are mostly liars and drug addicts. It makes for compelling television, but it's also clearly propaganda. It's hard to think black lives truly matter if that's where you're getting your information about the police.
In addition to the new chill in the air, another factor contributed to it being ideal conditions for gathering firewood: mosquito season seems to be over. I went down to the outside of the screened-in porch, and there weren't even mosquitoes down there. Meanwhile, up in the woodshed, all the recently-processed firewood has grown into an impressive pile. I've completed over half of the back tranche, and some of the second tranche is done as well. There's also a lot of burnable construction debris taking up a fair amount of that second tranche. It will be good stuff for burning early in the season, which is why I have it closer to the front.
