on the wrong side of nature's schedule
Monday, November 13 2017
Today is the day that I actually noticed that the front aluminum cross-member on the Subaru roof-rack had been bent all the way down to the roofline of the car. The problem was that the bulk of the 12 foot two-by-eights had been cantilevering forward. If I can unwarp that cross-member, it might make sense to ram a block of wood in between it and the roof (though I could see a really heavy load then leaving an indentation in that).
The cold, mostly cloudy weather continues. I'd been planning to do my annual raking of the pine needles from Dug Hill Road, but was thwarted today by the annual arrival of the Hurley highway crew with their big leaf-vacuuming trailer. It's possible I can still gather what I need, but there won't be as much in any one place. I'd been hoping they would dry a little more before the vacuum trailer arrived, but I shouldn't've waited so long. It's good to know that this is about the time that happens, which seems to be timed for after the bulk of the leaves have fallen. Pine needles usually fall a little before deciduous leaves, and I don't even really want deciduous leaves, so I waited too long even if the only issue was nature's schedule.
