mystery wire in the four twenty forest Friday, April 20 2018
Today was four twenty, and I didn't smoke any pot at all today, or even drink alcohol. I was nursing a moderate hangover from last night's excesses and it seemed best to take a spacer day, even if it was four twenty and I was missing out on the most legal four twenty yet.
This morning I took the dogs on the beginning of a circuit that was to include some off-trail walking west of the Farm Road. But they immediately became obsessed with a hole-digging project within sight of the house of our aging uphill neighbors. Near where they were digging (41.931382N, 74.110046W), I found the remains of an old powerline (it was made of insulated stranded aluminum) under the leaves and running for dozens of feet. Had there actually been a house back here? If not, why would there be such a wire? There was no evidence of any structure, though I did find some other human artifacts under the leaves there, including a piece of what looked like automotive chrome.
