   lingering March cool
Monday, April 30 2018
Happily, Clarence the Cat was walking on his infected left paw this morning. The swelling had gone down and now there was a visible scab between his pinky toe and his ring toe (if those are things in cats). Evidently the infection had burst and drained, and the what infection remained had lost several battles to the antibiotic I'd given him. Gretchen still took Clarence to the vet, where he was prescribed a week-long course of 62.5 mg of clavamox twice a day.

[REDACTED]

Meanwhile, the cool weather continued, with temperatures only reaching up into the very low 50s, as it would be expected to in mid-March. I actually ran the heat for a bit in the laboratory so I would be warm enough to work.
While Gretchen was wrapped up in something of an Empire marathon, I took 50 milligrams of diphenhydramine and went to bed early with a Chromebook and a pair of headphones. The plan was to maybe watch a movie on an SMB share on the local network. But SMB shares never seem to work reliably except on Windows clients (and, to a lesser degree, Android). The Chromebook (using two different apps) mostly couldn't connect, and when it could it didn't actually play anything. Then there's the problem of what path format these various systems require (for some reason no examples are ever given). Was the path smb://katydid/1? or should it have been \\katydid\1? Or maybe katydid/1? I tried all three, and none of them worked.
