   crashed communications satellite
Sunday, September 10 2006
Using ropes, I managed to lower and attached two sixteen foot long two by eights down along the east and west sides of the solar deck so that their long ends cantilevered southward nearly five feet. Eventually I'll be adding angled supports from below and then joining them with a long east-west beam crossing over the house's ridgeline. On this beam will rest the weight of the new collector, and once it is up there will be space for another as well. The design principle used with the solar deck's construction is "form follows function," but at some point I may want to make all these crazy outgrowths a little more attractive so that part of the house will look like something other than a crashed communications satellite.
