complex catbird songs north of the house
Tuesday, May 22 2018
A very loud catbird has recently moved into the vicinity around the house, and he (or she; I don't know how it works with catbirds) has been singing mind-bendingly complicated songs, mostly in the trees in a band running from the greenhouse north of the house up to the vicinity of our mailbox on Dug Hill Road. This is the typical habitat of catbirds; for whatever reason they don't like doing their thing in real forest, even if at the forest's edge (such as the habitat just south of our house).

Nicole and Allison continue losing their minds in preparation for the GDPR, the new internet privacy rules going into effect in the European Union on May 25th. Nicole was actually at the point of asking me if perhaps I could help with the assembling of emails in our mass emailing system. I know a lot about that system, but I've never actually sent any email with it. Normally that job falls to Cameron, who is the only one in The Organization considered trustworthy enough to operate it. But Cameron is on vacation this week, as is Geetika. Cameron had been lurking, though, and he popped up when things seemed most dire to say he'd clock in, despite being on vacation. He might hate having to do this, but he loves his organizational family and he's good at this stuff. What followed was a multi-hour video happy hour of the sort we can't get enough. It wasn't just to bitch about The President and the Director of Development (but that was certainly part of it). It was also a chance for Allison to bitch about Dan never being online when she needs him (currently he's in Thailand). She seems to be hoping that The Organization doesn't end up accommodating his desire not to work hourly once moving to California.
I should mention that I feel bad about all the work Nicole and Allison are having to do related to the GDPR. But there's little that needs doing that falls into my work description.
