laser on formerly-sundrenched surfaces Wednesday, May 23 2018
[REDACTED]
I have a tool by Bosch that fires a pair of laser beams at 90 degrees from each other for use in ensuring structures are actually square. It was more important that the roof be perfectly square than that the floor had been (though I'd used this tool when placing that as well). This is because roofing materials, particularly the metal roofing I prefer, does not allow for much wiggle when it turns out your roof isn't perfectly square. I'd encountered a mild version of this problem when building the greenhouse roof back in 2008 (and more severe versions when roofing an old barn at the childhood home in the 1980s).
After the sun had fallen enough for me to see the laser on what had been formerly-sundrenched surfaces, I figured out exactly where on the side of the house to attach the two-by-six to which I will be attaching the screened-in porch's collar ties.
